Anti-Bullying Campaign Brings Excitement to NEPA Students

I was happy to read in today's Times-Tribune about an inventive new way to get middle school students in Abington Heights School District excited about an anti-bullying campaign. According to the article, a Road Scholar Transport rig "emblazoned with an enormous red stop sign and the words 'Stop Bullying' on the trailer had dozens of fifth-graders shouting the message moments after it parked Thursday morning." The school district's campaign, which has been well underway for several years, centers around the image of a stoplight, which is posted in many areas around the school building.

The president and founder of the Dunmore-based company, Jim Barrett, said he decided to integrate the school district's anti-bullying campaign on his tractor-trailer, with another one in the works, after he read of shocking incidents in the news across the country. Bullying is a major problem in schools across the US, and NEPA is no exception. According to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program's website, "A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself." Bullying can lead to depression, low self-esteem, health problems, poor grades, and even suicidal thoughts.

If your child is the victim of a bullying or hazing incident that has led to a personal injury, contact an experienced personal injury attorney at Rogan Law Firm to discuss your case today.
