Tragic Incident Reported at PA Natural Gas Drill Site

Today's Times-Tribune reports that a tragic explosion in Indianola, Pennsylvania has killed two workers at a natural gas well. A welding project near the well is suspected to have triggered the deadly explosion and subsequent fire, though investigations as to the cause remain underway.
My deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the men who were killed.
Though this particular well is not part of the Marcellus Shale system, its new notoriety highlights the dangers of natural gas drilling inside and outside the Marcellus Shale region and raises questions about the effectiveness of safety regulations that protect workers as well as people who live near the wells.
